A village of African People supporting each other educationally wants to begin providing virtual tutoring services to reach Black Students in Palo Alto while their home-based is in Redwood City, which in San Mateo county.

Ujima’s Youth Service Program (High School)

Offers mentoring, leadership development, and community service opportunities for high school students. Currently in four High Schools.

The “Academies” After-School Tutoring

Provides early literacy support to help young learners excel in reading and writing.

Black Students of California United

Black Students of California United (BSCU) is a statewide organization focused on developing African American Students through Culturally Competent Leadership Training, Civic Engagement Experiences, Experiential Project-Based Learning, Dual Generation Engagement, Mental and Physical Health Maintenance Habits and Practices Training, and Research & Presentation Skills Training.

Tyson Amir’s BLACK Program (Middle School)

Focused on empowering middle school students with culturally responsive learning opportunities.

  • Tyson also has a Community of Care program that is meant to help students understand issues such as oppression, racism, homophobia- then helps students come together over a project/solution to help their school.
    • Oak Grove’s anti-hate/ant N-word policy came out this program

Lantern Literacy Project (Elementary School)

Free tutoring funded by the school district to help students achieve their academic goals before the school day begins.

Offers a community to Homeschooling and potential homeschooling parents to afro centered curriculum and, African culture, and technology

Queens Gettin Lit

Queens Gettin’ Lit! (QGL!) is a program and curriculum based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its purpose is to form a community of Black girls and provide them with a space to develop literacy skills while giving them exposure to positive Black history and culture, and empower their sense of self. The program and curriculum exposes Black girls to literary content that reflects Black history and cultural heritage experiences. Students in this program get an opportunity to learn, develop, and practice literacy and critical thinking skills to complete projects.
