African American College-Readiness Summit
(High Schools)

This Summit has the goal of raising the awareness of African American youth about the need for preparing for college. There have been three Summits to date that have included approximately 500 students on each occasion from districts throughout Santa Clara County. San Jose State is the venue and the University is a major partner in making the day possible. In addition, the SJSU Black Student Union (BSU) provides volunteers who present workshops and act as chaperones. Students also experience traditional African culture through participation in dance and song.

San Jose State University is a co-sponsor of this event. The Santa Clara County Office of Education, along with local school districts provide critical support for the program. Districts participating in last years program included Campbell Union High School District, East Side High school District, Fremont Union High School District, Milpitas Unified High School District, Palo Alto Unified School District, San Jose Unified School District and Santa Clara Unified School District.
